![]() This book was everything I needed in a dark, twisted retelling to fulfil my little mermaid obsession. I really wish this was a duology as I feel like the ending was a little rushed aside from that it was a fantastic read. The character development and world building were amazing, and I loved the banter between the two main characters. Robbed of her voice, lira has until winter solstice to deliver prince Elian's heart or remain human forever. As punishment, the sea queen transforms lira into the one thing sirens loathe the most - A HUNAN. She is revered across the sea until a twist of fate forces her to kill one of her own. Lira is siren royalty and the most lethal of them all. "I have a heart for every year I've been alive. Give it a try if you are a fan of adventure, romance and Lira. I put that down mostly to Lira and very good pacing. In spite of all this, I immensely enjoyed this book. It might be nitpicking but it did take me out of the story. There were a few inconstiencies in the story, specially at the start. I think the point of calling them 'pirates' was so that they sound cool. They never do anything pirate like at all. It also relies that we are familiar enough with classic fairy tales to fill in the holes. The world building was quite lazy, relying on a great deal of suspension of disbelief on the part of the reader. ![]() There is so much I can say here.įirst the secondary characters, they were all one dimensional.
